Dark Souls is a role playing video game in action genre. It was developed by Japanese company From Software for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows. The game was published by Namco Bandai Games in 2011. It was chosen as the Game of the Year by Game Revolution and IncGamers.
The action of the game takes place in the kingdom of Lordran, which is cursed by Darksign. A player is offered to play a role of an Undead, who is able to resurrect after the death near the last visited bonfire. Assissted by a stranger, the protagonist escapes from the Northern Undead Asylum and discovers about the prophecy that the Chosen one will manage to leave the asylum, get to the lands of ancient Lords, ring the "Bell of Awakening" in Lordran and die from various injuries.
Dark Souls is a third-person game. The gameplay consists of the world exploration, seeking for the key items and killing the bosses. The game can't be saved at any stage. After the death, a player loses all the resources and gets back to the checkpoint. A player can travel to various areas and investigate new paths, some of which can be opened only after doing certain tasks. On his way, a character also needs to kill his enemies to get experience points and money. A personage may have a rest near bonfires, where he can get to the next level, restore health, get to the next location, improve or repair the equipment. One more important aspect of the game is humanity. A character may be either in "human" form or in the "hollow" one. Being a "human", a personage is able to find allies, invade or being invaded by other players as well as improve certain skills. When a human dies, a personage appears in the "hollow" form with the undead appearance.
