Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening is a hack and slash video game. It was released by Capcom in 2005 for PlayStation 2 and in 2006 for Microsoft Windows. It is a prequel to Devil May Cry, released in 2001.
The actions of the game take place several years earlier than in the first Devil May Cry. The plot centers on the hard relationship between protagonist Dante and his brother Vergil. Vergil wants to open the gate to the world of demons with the help of a tower and in order to do that, he needs two amulets, one of which is owned by Dante. But when Dante is beaten in the fight, Vergil takes his amulet and leaves. A devil's force awakens in Dante and he starts to chase his brother. However, soon, he discovers that Arkham wanted to use him and his brother to open the world of demons and later, rule the world, inhabited by demons, with the help of the Force Edge sword. The brothers manage to defeat Arkham and later, confront each other in the fight for the amulet. Dante wins and Vergil is left in the world of demons.
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening consists of levels, where a player needs to kill enemies, collect bonuses and solve puzzles. In the end of almost every level, he or she faces a boss, for killing whom he or she receives either a new ability or a new weapon. After completing each level, a player gets a grade: D, C, B, A and top marks are S and SS. The marks depend upon the time, spent on the the tasks fulfillment, number of red orbs, combat performance, item usage and the character's damage. A player is free to choose a combat style for the protagonist. It can be Trickster, Swordmaster, Gunslinger or Royal Guard.
