Mass Effect 2 is a role playing video game, a sequel to Mass Effect. It was developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts in 2010. It got several prizes, including Game of the Year at the 14th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards and Best Game at the 2011 British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards.
The game is set in XXII century in the Milky Way galaxy. During the cosmos exploration, the humanity faces a hostile alien race - the Reapers. The main character is Captain Shepard, an experienced soldier and the Commanding Officer of the SSV Normandy and Normandy SR-2 starships. By order of the Cerberus organization, Shepard gathers a team of specialists to fight against the Reapers. The players have a chance to use the completed saved game of the first part of the game, which may influence the plot.
Mass Effect 2 is a single-player action game, viewed by a player from a third-person perspective. At the beginning of the game, a player can choose the character's appearance, gender, first name and combat skills. Like in the first part of the game, there are six characters classes and each of them have a certain set of skills. The game world is a galaxy map, which a player can explore and complete various quests, the majority of which are combat missions. After completing a quest, a character gets experience points. After getting a certain amount of experience points, a player gets to the next level and receives a chance to improve the skills of Shepard or the members of his team.
In battles, Shepard can be assissted by two combat members. The battles take place in real time, but it's possible to pause the battle to change weapons. Though a player controls only Shepard and the other squad members are controlled by artificial intelligence, he or she may issue commands, for example, to send them to take cover or focus their fire on a certain object.
