Metroid Prime is a video game, developed by Retro Studios and Nintendo in 2002. It got several Game of the Year awards and is still considered to be one of the greatest video games ever made.
Metroid Prime is a first-person action-adventure game with the elements of a shooter. It uses a first-person view, but in some parts of the game a third-person camera is applied. The setting is a sci-fi world, where a player controls the main character - the bounty hunter Samus Aran. The plot is based on the fight against the Space Pirates and their experiments on Tallon IV planet. Through the Samus' helmet, a player can see a radar display, a map, ammunition for missiles, a health meter, a danger meter as well as a health bar and name display for bosses.
The game takes place in a large non-linear world, consisting of various regions, connected by elevators. Each region contains several rooms, which can be opened with a shot from the correct weapon. The basics of the gameplay are puzzles solving, search of the secret places, platform jumping and firefights with the enemies. The protagonist explores the world in the search of Chozo Artifacts, which can open access to the Phazon meteor impact crater. Throughout the game, a player also gathers different items, which help to improve the protagonist's suit, weapons, armor or provide with various skills. For example, Morph Ball makes it possible to get into narrow passages and plant energy bombs while Grapple Beam helps to swing across gaps. Metroid Prime also has a hint system, which shows a player where to go and how to progress through the game.
